I'm going to a party

The gentleman I'm seeing - or should I say dating? Can a woman my age date or is that just for young people? - has invited me to a party at the home of someone he works with. A lot of his co-workers are going to be there, too. He told me it's a dinner party with cocktails beforehand and I'm so nervous because I don't think I'm all that good at small talk. Usually we spend time here or he takes me to a restaurant and I feel so comfortable with him. I don't want his friends to think I'm stupid or anything and I don't want to embarrass him by saying something dumb. This is the first time in a long time that I've gone to a party where I literally only know one person. Why did I say yes?!

You really shouldn't worry about it so much. Best thing you can possibly do when you go to a party is to just go with the flow and be yourself, like Will said.

When you worry too much about it then you just drive yourself crazy and you end up all tight and nervous.

So just go and have fun.

What made you boys so smart?

I've spent way to much time at parties and military/diplomatic functions over the years.

I would have to assume that Will got it from you. ;)

Ah, I see. You'd think I'd be better at this considering Tobias dragged me to his bank functions all the time. But I knew most of those people beforehand. I'll heed your advice and just relax and try to have a good time.

LOL Sometimes I'm not so sure. I used to be so much more shy and reserved when I was a young woman, but Will was chatty and curious about people before he could even form words! Maybe he rubbed off on me.

Maybe you just needed someone to show you the ropes. Besides, it sounds to me like it was a pretty even exchange. You gave him your smarts and he gave you his...exuberance.

I like the sound of that! Though Tobias gave Will his smarts. But that's very sweet of you to say.

Well, I never knew him, so I'll stick with my first impressions and say it was you just the same.

[identity profile] momma-p.livejournal.com 2009-01-04 06:29 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I appreciate that very much, honey. You are a charmer.

[identity profile] lt-wes-janson.livejournal.com 2009-01-04 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh. It's an old habit I can't quite seem to shake. It tends to get me in trouble on occasion.

[identity profile] momma-p.livejournal.com 2009-01-04 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't you ever shake it! But how in the world could it get you into trouble?

[identity profile] lt-wes-janson.livejournal.com 2009-01-04 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Some people take it the wrong way or I use it on people who I shouldn't use it on cause they take it the wrong way or, well, just various things like that.

[identity profile] momma-p.livejournal.com 2009-01-06 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, okay, I can see how that could cause some trouble. But something tells me you don't mind some trouble now and then.

[identity profile] lt-wes-janson.livejournal.com 2009-01-06 01:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Who, me? I don't even know the meaning of the word.

[identity profile] momma-p.livejournal.com 2009-01-08 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
Now why don't I believe you?

[identity profile] lt-wes-janson.livejournal.com 2009-01-08 12:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Like I said, you're a smart woman.
